Musician/producer/artist Mike Shinoda premieres a brand-new series of paintings and digital work in the Aratani Central Hall. The exhibition, which is presented in two parts, features large-scale pieces that blend his own experiences in the superstar spotlight with pop commentary and classical vanitas influences.

supporting the multicultural work of local artists will be exhibited at the National Museum.

Textured Lives: Japanese Immigrant Clothing from the Plantations of Hawai‘i
May 2009–September 2009
This exhibition will explore the material culture of Issei from the pre-World War II plantations of Hawai‘i and the evocative stories that these textiles symbolize. Through the colorful display of intricately woven and handpainted kimono and plantation clothing and use of unique audio and visual resources, this exhibition will give voice to the experiences of the issei that were marked by innumerable hardships, as well as inspiring triumphs.
